Latest News – June 2010
Here is an update of what is going on around the world. We also have more photos on the way, so keep an eye on the gallery!
In Tanzania:
- Denise Mabire is now out in Kagera to work with the Tumaini Team until 13th July…her 30 years of social-work experience in Guernsey enables her to work with the team and plan with them the work for the year ahead.
- Georgina Workman, a final year medic, will be joining Denise for the month of June, to complete her elective project at Murgwanza Hospital.
- Trevor Jones is joining them at the end of June to supervise work on the office and help with the fieldwork.
In Guernsey:
- The 40th World Aid Walk in May, when we joined with Oxfam, Action Aid, Christian Aid and Save the Children Fund, will have raised a good contribution to our secondary school budget for 2011. See www.worldaidwalk.org.gg
Secondary schooling costs £35 per year…next year we expect to send in excess of 6000 students, which will cost £210,000! - The Bubblegum Bangers Rally have adopted Tumaini to benefit from their madcap adventures in Europe this Summer – see www.Bubblegumbangers.org …they plan to raise in excess of £35,000 for the orphans..that would send 1000 orphans to secondary school in 2011…which is wonderful.
In the UK:
- We’re waiting for Tumaini to be registered as a UK charity.
In the US:
- Tumaini is now a fully registered charity…running out of Naples, Florida – the very dynamic Board, headed by Doug and Lis are doing a fantastic job at getting the situation facing the orphans of Kagera out to the people in the US. tumainifundusa.org
In New Zealand:
- Dave and Linda Martin are running Tumaini NZ from Prebbleton and we are so grateful for the prayers and support from New Zealand.
Please could you pray for all these people working for the orphans of Kagera – 200,000 orphans is a daunting number of children to seek to support, but God knows them all by name already and cares about what happens to them.
We are looking for a miracle, and Jesus is the Lord of miracles and of Tumaini – please pray.
