Our Promise

Tumaini Fund is committed to respecting your privacy and safeguarding your personal information in accordance with the UK Data Protection Act 1998, the Privacy and the UK Electronic Communications Regulations 2003, further UK updates and its incorporation into Guernsey Law in the Data Protection (Bailiwick of Guernsey) Law, 2017.

How we collect your personal information

We collect your personal information when you decide to become a sponsor, make a donation or sign up to help at a Tumaini Fund event. The personal information we collect can be:

- personal identifiers such as name and title

- contact details such as postal address, postcode, e-mail, telephone number

- for regular donors, your bank details

- to apply for Gift Aid, whether you are a Guernsey Tax-Payer

- records of your contact with us

Sensitive Personal Data

The Data Protection Act recognizes some information as “sensitive personal data” such as religious beliefs, health issues, race or ethnic origin and Tumaini Fund will always treat such data with greatest care and process this information in accordance with the Data Protection Act.

Why we collect your personal information

- to link sponsors with a sponsored family in Tanzania (we are working on a new orphan sponsorship database at this time)

- to process donations and reclaim Gift Aid

- to keep you informed about our work and events

- to fundraise more efficiently

Marketing Permissions

We are committed to respecting your choice to receive marketing information and news from Tumaini Fund including E-mail and telephone notification of volunteering events, information on fundraising activities, periodic newsletters sharing updates on Tumaini projects and news from Kagera, thank-you letters following donations.

If you, at any time, wish us to remove your contact details from our database, please contact our Data Protection Officer via the "Contact us" form at the bottom of this page.

Who we share your information with

We do not share your information with anyone outside the Tumaini Fund, except the first names of donors with their sponsored families in Kagera and the names of donors, with permission, on plaques on the wells and houses they sponsor in Tanzania.

How long do we keep your Data?

Tumaini Fund will only keep your data for as long as it is required and in accordance with statutory requirements.

Your information rights

The Data Protection Act (DPA) gives you the right:

- to request in writing and securely obtain copies of any personal data held

- to correct and update your personal information

- to request Tumaini Fund to stop using your personal information

Reporting Concerns

Please contact Tumaini Fund if your wish to raise a concern about our handling of your personal data. Changes to this Privacy Notice

Tumaini Fund will review this privacy notice regularly and will update it should there be changes in the law and any significant changes will be notified on our website.
